Plenty of stingrays washed ashore at Kelshi between September 12, 2018 to September 15, 2018. Kelshi is a coastal village in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra near Anjarle.

Reason is unknown; but there are few possible reasons for this phenomenon.

Towards the end of monsoon oxygen levels in sea is drastically low and leads to disorientation among the fishes. These stingrays are washed ashore either because of this reason.

Stingrays often seen hunting on small fishes near the coastline. This could be the another factor that the big group of stingrays while hunting on small fishes may have come very close to the seashore and then lack of oxygen might have washed them alive ashore.

Another theory is; sometime group of stingrays while hunting on the small fishes accidentally get caught into the fishermen nets. Fishermen; while collecting the small fishes might be throwing the stingrays back into the water and then these are getting washed off ashore.

Besides the seasonal change, water pollution and chemical wastes in our seas may have also affected the marine life and stingrays.

Experts can comment if there are any more reasons.. but it was a unfortunate scene to see the beach full of dead stingrays.
